Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran is an American businesswoman. The Corcoran Group was a New York City real estate brokerage that she started. NRT purchased it for $66 million in 2001. Corcoran soon exited the company. Corcoran is among ABC's first Shark Tank investors. As of now, she has been in each season of Shark Tank. She has been involved in 53 deals as of February of 2020. The largest was a $350,000 investment that will cover 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second child of ten from a working-class Irish Catholic family. Florence, Corcoran's mother, was a housewife. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr., her father, was constantly changing jobs throughout Corcoran's career. The family relied on the food provided by an artisanal local grocery store for free food. Corcoran claims her father was a drunken man who was rude to her mother and sarcastic remarks. Corcoran struggled through her schooling and was eventually diagnosed with dyslexia. Corcoran attended an Catholic elementary school, and later began high school in Englewood at St. Cecilia High School. Corcoran completed her studies at Leonia High School with a degree in English after not completing several classes in her first year.
